2013 Annual Meeting of China Society of Private International Law Held Successfully

China Society of Private International Law celebrated the grand opening of its 2013 annual meeting in Lanzhou, Gansu, in September 27-28. The host of this annual meeting is China Society of Private International Law and the undertaker is Gansu Political Science and Law Institute. More than 150 experts and practitioners of private international law, from universities, research institutions, the Foreign Ministry, the Supreme Court, Higher Peoples Court of Gansu Province, Higher Peoples Court of Guangdong Province, Higher Peoples Court of Hubei Province, attended this meeting. The opening ceremony was presided over by Ding Wei, Director of the Legislative Affairs Commissions of Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress, Vice president of China Society of Private International Law, Professor of East China University of Political Science and Law. Other honored guests were invited to give speech in turn, like Zhao Xianglin, Luo Dongchuan, Liang Yamin, Chen Peijie, Xiao Yongping, Lin Guanghai.
The theme of this annual meeting is about the reform and development of private international law. Therefore, conferees discussed the many related topics, such as the new developments of private international law at the theoretical and practical levels, the Law of the Application of Law for Foreign-related Civil Relations and its judicial interpretations, the reform of private international law, recent developments of international civil and commercial dispute resolution, international investment arbitration and the international energy dispute settlement mechanisms, improvement of arbitration system. And the heated issues and difficulties in the legislation and judicial practices of private international law of China were put great weight on. This annual meeting had received 108 academic articles.
This annual meeting combined the two forms of reports and group discussions. Conferees actively expressed their opinions and exchanged their ideas, which made this meeting quite fruitful.
At the closing ceremony, Professor He Qinsheng, as the representative of the first group, concluded: firstly, the theme of this meeting had three characteristics, the continuity of academic research and continuous attention, on the basis of Chinese unique culture and social environment, and the implementation of international rules in China; secondly, the group discussion was rather active and heated. Besides, he hoped that this tradition could be kept.
After that, Professor Du Tao gave the conclusion of the second group discussion, which centered on the Application of Law for Foreign-related Civil Relations and its judicial interpretations, the principle of party autonomy, regional private international law, consumer protection and the application of international treaties in China. Then, Associate Professor Du Huanfang also concluded the third group discussion from the aspects of its forms and contents.
